In Houston, we have 8-mile light rail. When it goes across an intersection, the rail stops all vehicles and throws out the traffic flow and the stop light pattern. This happens like once every 3 minutes. But this is bidirectional... So, stop & go can happen once every 1 1/2 minutes. Now, when cars, buses, and trucks stop, how much gas are wasted?
Is this a valid argument, you think?
As many of you who has the mpg meter on your car know that stopping a car can really bring down your average mpg. So, a calculation is made on all these stop and go that's created by the light rail, it could be substantial. I just don't know how much.
